“That ICPA Qld lobbies the Department of Education (DoE) to ensure that all Lead Educators in schools offering State Delivered Kindergarten (SDK) are remunerated and provided additional non-contact time (NCT) to reflect the additional requirements in implementing the kindergarten program.”
State Delivered Kindergartens operate on an alternate framework to State Schools, thus requiring Lead Educators to complete additional compliance and educational reporting. They may also operate on a service agreement that extends beyond a typical school day. However, despite these additional requirements, SDK Lead Educators are paid the same wage as their colleagues on the same teaching classification who are not required to complete the additional reporting and administration requirements.
Case Study
The lead educator at Winton’s State School’s SDK is paid by the DoE for a typical school day (8:45am- 2:45pm), yet the SDK operates from 8:00am (45 minutes of unpaid supervision). Therefore, in a 40-week school year, it is estimated that the Lead Educator completes an additional 150 hours of supervision outside their renumerated hours of duty.
In addition, the Lead Educator estimates they complete an hour a day of paperwork and administration tasks for the Kindergarten but does not receive additional NCT.
